Cham Chuan Kee is one of the oldest Hainanese kopitiam in Semporna town. They are famous for their traditional homemade toast breads and coffee which are produced on a daily basis.

We had breakfast and lunch at Cham Chuan Kee 2 during our two days stay at Semporna town. However, the food was disappointing.

Why Cham Chuan Kee 2? It is because there are two branches. The one near the jetty just below our hostel is their second branch. Thus, it was known as Cham Chuan Kee 2.

For breakfast, we ordered their signature homemade toast breads. Their toast breads are made up of two thick sliced old school Hainanese loaf bread with cold butter and homemade kaya jam.

The toasts were not to our liking. They were too thick and not crunchy. However, they were soft and fluffy. The Kaya was also not rich and fragrant. The good thing was they come in generous portions, so they were very filling.

I like to dip my breads into the half-boiled kampung eggs, so we also ordered two each. Half boiled eggs and toast breads are the perfect match

For lunch, we ordered chicken Claypot Yee Mee noodles and Seafood Shang Mee. They both taste so-so. The only thing we like was the prawns. They were so fresh and bouncy!

The coffee shop is very busy during breakfast hours from 6.30 am to 8.30 am. Most of the locals and tourists have their breakfasts here before they set off for their island-hopping adventures. We found the food was a little expensive but drinks were cheap. However, the drinks taste bland and food is nothing to shout about. Even so, this is probably the most convenient place to have your breakfast if you stay near the jetty area.
