[Semporna, Malaysia 2022] Cube Bed Station Hostel

Semporna is a relatively small town and most of the hotels here consist mainly of 2-3 stars budget accommodations located near the seafront. For our trip to Semporna, we stayed at Cube Bed Station Hostel for 2 nights in Semporna town before we checked into Sipadan Kapalai Resort.
The hostel is conveniently located close to the public jetty (about 5-7 mins walk away), supermarkets, pharmacies, and many famous seafood restaurants like Fat Mom's Restaurant and Fish Village Seafood Restaurant.
Check in was smooth and hassle free at the reception on the ground floor. There is also a common pantry area on the ground floor equipped with a microwave and a Coway water dispenser for guests use.
We booked standard double room with no window for less than RM 120 per night. Even though the room was very small, it was equipped with all the basic amenities you need for a comfortable stay.
Measuring 12 meters square, the room comes with a large queen size bed, a working desk and en-suite bathroom. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were too soft for our liking.
WiFi is available throughout the hotel but the connection was very weak and slow in the room. There was no TV in the room, which was not really a problem because we don't really watch TV when we travel.
The wash basin is located outside the bathroom. Surprisingly, the bathroom was pretty spacious. Wall mounted shower gel and shampoo are provided, as well as towels and hair dryer. The bathroom can get pretty wet and slippery after shower, so be careful when you step inside.
Conclusion
Overall, the hostel is better than what we expected. Even though the room is small, it is clean and comfortable. The hostel also offers several room types that cater to different needs and budgets.
However, the rooms have very poor soundproofing. It can be very frustrating if you happen to meet very noisy neighbors like us. Other than that, there is also no lift at the hostel. We had to carry our heavy luggage up the stairs to our room on the second floor. Therefore, I would not recommended people with mobility issues to book this hotel.
