Semporna is home to one of the best seafood in Sabah. The seafood here is cheap and fresh. It is absolutely a heaven for seafood lovers where you can enjoy an abundance of delicious seafood without burning a hole in your pockets!
There are plenty of seafood restaurants around Semporna town. We had our dinner at Fish Village Seafood Restaurant for two nights when we were staying in Semporna town. Initially, we actually wanted to eat at the famous Fat Mom’s restaurant. But no one attended to us when we walked into the restaurant during dinner time. Therefore, we decided to eat at Fish Village instead.

Initially, we actually wanted to eat at the famous Fat Mom’s restaurant. But no one attended to us when we walked into the restaurant during dinner time. Fortunately, the food at Fish Village didn’t disappoint. The restaurant was pretty busy during dinner time as well. But we were served as soon as we walked into the restaurant.
There are tanks of fresh live fish and seafood in the restaurant for you to pick and have it cooked according to your preference. But do remember to ask the price before you order because all the live seafood here are sold by weight.
Steamed Scallops with Garlic and Glass Noodles
This was one of our favorite dish. The scallops were freshly sweet with a springy texture. All the delicious juices from the scallops are absorbed by the glass noodles. So tasty!
Steamed Mantis Prawns with Egg Whites
Mantis Prawn is a must eat in Semporna. An expensive delicacy but totally worth the splurge. The meat is tender and delightfully sweet. It taste almost like a lobster! So fresh and delicious
Steamed Grouper
I didn't know that grouper can actually taste as good as this! The flesh was silky smooth and tender. Seasoned with light soy sauce, it tastes deliciously fresh and sweet.
Sayur Paku
This was the first time I have tried Sayur Paku. But unfortunately, I didn't like it at all. My husband said that the one he had in Sarawak was so much more delicious than this. We really regretted ordering this dish.
Butter Prawns with Egg Floss
Coated in crispy golden egg floss, the butter prawns were delicious as well. The creamy taste of butter with sweet and salty flavored egg floss made this dish simply irresistable!
Siput Gajah
I think this is native only to Sabah or Semporna. Well, at least we have never seen this before in any other parts of Malaysia. Therefore, I think it is worth a try. Siput Gajah is also known as Sabah Geoduck. They were fresh and chewy, but I don't really like the taste of it. My husband, however, love it very much.
We ate at this Fish Village two days in a row. This was what we ordered:
For day 1, we ordered:
- Steamed Scallops with Garlic and Glass Noodles
- Steamed Grouper Fish
- Vegetables ( I think it's called Sayur Paku)
- Steamed Mantis Prawns
Total bill: RM 192
For day 2, we ordered:
- Garlic and Glass Noodles
- Steamed Red Grouper Fish
- Butter Prawns with Egg Floss
- Ginger Onion Siput Gajah (or Sabah Geoduck)
We had most of the live seafood cooked by the steaming method to retain their natural goodness. As for the prices, we felt that it was still considered pretty cheap because most of the seafood we ordered were live seafood.
