Fatt Kee Roast Duck & Chicken Restaurant is a well-known roasted meat stall in Pudu. The roadside stall is basically operating under an extended zinc roofing with a few fans to keep the place cool.

Founded in 1988, Fatt Kee has been around for three generations. Even so, the owner has insisted on using the traditional cooking methods in order to preserve the traditional old taste.

Other than their main branch in Pudu, it had also opened another three branches in Puchong, Cheras and Sri Petaling.

The stall is popular with the locals and often very busy during lunch time. Seats are pretty limited and there is usually a long queue for take away. However, service is usually fast and efficient. so you don't really need to wait too long.

Char Siew

Char Siew (or Char Siu) is my most favorite dish. I am actually very picky when it comes to Char Siew. I find Char Siew that are too fatty are too greasy, and Char Siew that are too lean are too dry. But the thick chunks of Char Siew from Fatt Kee have the perfect proportion of chewy fats and lean meat that just melts in your mouth. They are moist and tender with just the right balance of savory and sweet. So delicious!

However, some people might not like their Char Siew because they would find them a little too fatty. Although it is fatty, it does not make you feel greasy.

Siew Yoke

The Siew Yoke (Roasted Pork Belly) have the right balance of lean meat and fats with crispy, crackling skin. The meat is tender yet firm and not overly salty.

Roasted duck is a must order here. The skin of the roasted duck is glossy and slightly charred, which gives it a slight crispy burnt taste. The meat, however, is a little dry and tough. Despite that, it still taste good but nothing exceptional.

Spicy Sour Mustard Greens
I love their Spicy Sour Mustard Greens (or Chai Boey). This spicy and sour stew is so comforting, and it really helps to boost up my appetite. Although it is a little too sour, it pairs perfectly well with steamed rice.

Herbal Coconut Chicken Soup
Besides roasted meat, Fatt Kee is also well-known for their variety of double-boiled soups.  Among them, my favorite is their Herbal Coconut Chicken Soup. Served in a coconut husk with pieces of pork ribs and Chinese herbs, the piping hot soup is so nourishing and refreshing. The soup has a strong herbal taste and you can also taste the sweetness of the coconut. This is so much more delicious than the herbal coconut chicken soup I had at Keong Kee Herbal Soup.

Conclusion

I have eaten at Fatt Kee for quite a number of times. Compared to pre-pandemic, portions have become slightly smaller while prices have increased quite a bit. But the food are still as good. I especially love their Char Siew and double boiled soups.
