Marrying a Malaysian: How To Renew Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) + Work Endorsement Online During The Covid-19 Pandemic

By Elin Chow - Friday, September 17, 2021

The time I have dreaded the most has arrived again. It was the time to renew my Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) and work endorsement. I felt especially anxious this time because we are currently still in the midst of a pandemic, and walking into the immigration office for renewal is currently not allowed. In order to visit the immigration, we are required to make an appointment via STO now. However, it is very hard to get a slot at the moment, especially at Jalan Duta immigration where my original file is located.

Fortunately, a few months ago, the immigration announced that foreign spouses of Malaysians are now allowed to go to any state immigration offices in Malaysia to renew our LTSVP and work endorsement.  We are no longer required to go the immigration office where our files are located to renew our LTSVP.

So, I immediately booked an appointment via STO to renew my soon to expired LTSVP at Putrajaya immigration office. Believe it or not, it is relatively easy to get a slot at Putrajaya than Jalan Duta or Sham Alam. I have booked the 9 am - 10 am slot, but I arrived at around 8.30 am and found that there was already a very long queue outside the immigration office.

After queuing up for an hour and a half, we finally managed to speak to the officer at the counter. However,  we were told by the officer that LTSVP that are yet to expire will need to submit the renewal application online. According to the officer, this is a new process that they have just implemented on the 6th September 2021.

However, this online renewal option is only available for LTSVP that has yet to expire. For people with LTSVP that has expired during the pandemic, they will need to book an appointment and renew at the counter at any immigration offices. As far as I know, the online renewal option is currently only available Putrajaya. So, I went to home and submitted my renewal application to the e-services website provided by the officer.

SUBMITTING THE RENEWAL APPLICATION ONLINE

To submit your renewal application, you will first need to sign up a new account on the website. Under Application Type, choose Social Visit Pass (Spouse of Malaysian Citizen). After registration, you will receive an email from the immigration with your password to log in the system. The immigration will also inform you whether your application is approved, rejected or pending through your email, so make sure your email address is correct.

After you log in the system with the password that you received from the immigration, click on "PLS RENEWAL APPLICATION" under New Application and search for your passport number and nationality. If your LTSVP is available for renewal, you will be able to submit in the system. Please note that you are only allowed to renew your LTSVP online one month before your current LTSVP expiry date.

You will need to upload the following documents in PDF or JPEG for renewal. Please get these documents ready before you submit your application online.

1. IMM Form 38
2. Marriage Cert
3. Your Passport Biodata Page and Current LTSVP
4. Malaysian Spouse's IC
5. Surat Akuan Form (Commissioner For Oaths)

For Surat Akuan form, you will need to get it stamped at a Commission of Oaths office and attach you and your Malaysian spouse's passport photo on it. I have previously heard that Putrajaya immigration office only accept the Commissioner for Oaths stamp in Putrajaya, but I got the form stamped at a Commissioner For Oaths office located in UTC Sentral. Luckily, they accepted it. So, if you want to play it safe, just get the form stamped at any Commissioner For Oaths offices in Putrajaya.

APPROVAL & PAYMENT

I received the approval email from the immigration three days later. In the email, there is a payment link to make the payment online. After you have made the payment, remember to download and print out the receipt.

I paid RM 270 in total and 2 years and 3 months, which is the remaining validity of my passport. The fee used to be RM 90 per year, but I believe it has now been increased to RM 120 per year.

After making the payment, you will need to make an appointment via STO under "Collection of Passport" to collect the LTSVP sticker on your passport at Putrajaya. Unlike the appointment for LTSVP renewal, the appointment to collect your passport is very easy to get. Please bring along all the original and photocopied documents that you have uploaded on the day of collection.

WORK ENDORSEMENT

Although you can submit your LTSVP renewal online, you will still have to do your work endorsement at the counter. However, you can do your work endorsement right on the day you collect your LTSVP sticker.

For work endorsement, you will need to submit the following documents:

1. Surat Akuan Form
You don't have to submit another Surat Akuan form again if you are renewing your LTSVP together.

2. Company SSM documents
You will have to buy these documents from SSM MYDATA.  The forms needed are:
- Form 9 (Certificate of Incorporation/Registration)
- Form 24 (Particular of Shareholders)
- Form 49 (Particular of Director/ Officers)
- Company Profile
- Particular of Company Secretary

Make sure you have the latest version of these documents. I am not sure what the immigration means by "latest", but try to get the latest ones for the renewal even though there are no changes made to the documents.

3. Letter of Offer

This must be printed on your company's letterhead. I would advise including your company stamp on it. In the case of a renewal, I have submitted a Confirmation of Employment letter instead of a Letter of Offer. On the Confirmation of Employment letter, I have listed out the starting period of my employment, my current salary and job position in the company.

4. Employment Contract

Employment contract must also be printed on your company's letterhead and get a RM 10 duty stamp from LHDN. Please ask your company to amend the date on your original employment contract to current date to avoid a stamping penalty.

6. Malaysian Spouse's IC

7. Foreign Spouse's Passport

8. Marriage Cert

COLLECTION

To avoid the crowds, I booked the earlier slot available, which is 8 am - 9 pm. Collection of the LTVSP  took about an hour and a half. I was given a number to collect my LTSVP, and once my number was called, I went to the counter to submit all the photocopied documents and my Work Endorsement renewal application. I am glad that everything was fast and smooth on that day.

By the way, the immigration has recently changed their rules on the work endorsement. No matter how long your LTSVP is, your work endorsement will only be for a year. The validity of the work endorsement used to follow the validity of the LTSVP in the past. However, they changed to a year now, so that means I will have to visit the immigration every year to renew my work endorsement in the future.

If you want to avoid hassle of visiting the immigration every year to renew your work endorsement, I heard that Shah Alam immigration is the only one that give work endorsement based on the validity of  your LTSVP. However, I don't know how long they will continue to do this. Furthermore, it is also very hard to get the appointment for Shah Alam during this pandemic period. I may try my luck at Shah Alam immigration next year.

  1. Thank you for this. It helps ALOT. I do have a question on registering e-Services. Does the fields "Identification No (NRIC)", "Spouse Full Name", "Spouse Date Of Birth", "Spouse Gender", refers to the Malaysian citizen?
"Applicant Passport No", "Applicant Nationality" refers to the foreign spouse?
Can Malaysian spouse register on behalf of the foreign husband i.e: username being the Malaysian spouse?

    2. Hi, Spouse refers to Malaysian spouse and Applicant refers to foreign spouse. Malaysian spouse has to register the account for foreign spouse. I actually wrongly keyed in my name under the spouse name during registration, but there is no big issue with it.

  2. Hi, thank you for information. What is application form for work endorsement and where do you get that? Because I usually renew with LTSVP, so never fill in application form. And during this time, your husband does not attend during process?

    1. Yes, you need to update your employment contract to the latest date if not you will get a penalty when you stamp it at LHDN. I got a runner to do it online for me. It is fast and easy. The runner got it done in a day.

      2. You need to book your appointment through STO under collection of passport at Putrajaya.

  5. Hi, just a few questions.
    1) Re documents submitted, are birth certificates of children required where the applicant has children?
    2) I can see the pros of doing this at Putrajaya instead of Jalan Duta (reduced waiting time, easier to book an appointment) but is Putrajaya more 'lenient' in terms of issuing longer period visas as opposed to Jalan Duta?
    3) If one can book an appointment at Jalan Duta during 1 month before LTSVP expires, will Jalan Duta still process the renewal as per the current process?

    1. 1. If you have children, you may also upload the birth certificates of your children if there is an option to upload the documents in the system.
      2. Yes, Putrajaya is more lenient since I got 2 years and 3 months, but might get 3 years if passport is longer without children.

    2. Thank you. Just to confirm, was the renewal period of 2 years & 3 months stated in the approval email?

  7. Hi Elin,

Thank you so much for sharing this info! Very very useful - we managed to get my husband
s renewal approved online. I wanna ask though - for the collection of the sticker, do you and your Malaysian spouse both need to be present? We have a 7 month old baby and don't have any babysitter so we will have to bring him along if immigration needs both of us there... Thank you!

    1. Hi,

Yes, my Malaysian spouse went with me. I also saw the immigration officer asking for the Malaysian spouse when I was collecting the sticker, so it is best for your Malaysian spouse to be present as well.

  8. Hi, when submit documents for work endorsement, need to submit supporting letter from MDEC? (as HR say need but not in the checklist). Thanks ah...

    1. I didn't submit MDEC letter. But I heard if you are working at a MSC company, you will need the MDEC letter, especially for Jalan Duta branch.

    2. Thanks. I will do in Putrajaya branch. Since still waiting for the letter from MDEC, will submit other documents first (as the checklist not mention MDEC letter) and see how.

    3. Putrajaya branch is easier. Hopefully they don't need the MDEC letter. Good luck.

  9. Thank you for the information, helps a lot. may i ask if you already apply for PR? if yes, any progress on that?

    1. Yes I have already apply PR in 2018. But so fsr, no progress. Anyway, I don’t have high hopes because it is most probably going to get rejected. From what I know, approval is given for those who stayed in Malaysia on LTSVP for at least 15 years currently.

  10. Hi Elin, thanks so much for sharing your experiences. Dealing with this is such a dreaded affair indeed. My PR application just got rejected, after a 6 year wait!

Anyways, so now I'm trying to do a renewal (extension) of my LTSVP. If you don't mind sharing some more info...

Once logged into the ePLSi website (https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/eservices/main?logMasuk) it is stated that the following documents are required:
    1. Passport
    2. Borang IMM 38
    3. Borang IMM 55
    4. Surat Akuan Sumpah beserta gambar (dicop Pesuruhjaya Sumpah)
    5. Surat Akuan Penaja (dicop Pesuruhjaya Sumpah)
    6. Salinan Kad Pengenalan dan Sijil Lahir Pasangan Warganegara
    7. Salinan Daftar Perkahwinan Malaysia
    8. Penyata Gaji Bulanan (3 bulan terkini)
    9. Lain-lain Dokumen sekiranya perlu dari semasa ke semasa

Do you know if item 5 is necessary? I remember this was filled the 1st time we applied. Anyways, if needed, where can I get the form for item 5?

For item 8, who's payslip are they looking for ... the applicant or spouse?

Do you know what is the maximum extension period they allow now? When I first applied, I was given 5 years. Then it was 2 years.

As for the work endorsement, the Company SSM documents is a new requirement?

Regarding the offer letter from employer, do you know if they can accept a printed copy that my HR emailed to me?

    Thanks in advance Elin

    1. Hi,

Hate to know that your PR application is rejected. It is a very frustrating thing. Did you try to appeal?

You don't need to upload every documents they listed on the ePLSi website. Just the ones I have listed out. So item 5 and item 8 are not required.

There is no standard for the maximum extension period. But from what i know, Putrajaya gives the longer extension period. The longer I heard at Putrajaya is 3 years while Jalan Duta mostly gives 1 year. Some people say based on whether you have kids or not, but I think it's not true. I don't have kids, but got longer than some people with kids. There is no more 5 years visa now.

However, Putrajaya only allow one year extension for work visa. Sham Alam will extend your work visa based on your LTSVP validity. Company SSM is a new requirement. Jalan Duta and Sham Alam will also require you to submit the company DBKL/PBT license for work visa renewal, income tax statement and work permission letter.

I believe the offer letter needs to have the company letter at least. I also added in a company chop.

    2. Hi Elin,

Thanks for the quick response. I just got to know of the PR application result last week. Yes will be appealing (once I find out how to go about that). I just recently found a FB page called Foreign Spouses Support Group https://www.facebook.com/FSSGMY/ where lotsa people on the same boat. Some waiting more than 10 years already.

Back to the LTSVP, hopefully their allow to the expiry of the work visa to coincide with the LTSVP visa. Red tape is one thing, inconsistent red tape is also another headache. :(

Oh no, what is this company DBKL/PBT license? *slaps forehead* Hahaha. I'll be dealing with the Shah Alam branch.

Is the Income Tax statement you mentioned the same as "Penyata Kedudukan Akaun" which we had to go get from LHDN next door? Oh jeez, with this pandemic, that means need to book appointment for that too!

      Delete
    3. DBKL/PBT license is premise license. It is the license that allows your company office to operate. Your company should be able to provide that.

I have never submit income tax statement before because this is a new requirement. From what I know, it should the proof that you have paid tax. I think you can just submit the receipt that you get from your online account when you file you tax every year.

  12. Hi, May I know if the payment has been made we need to wait for how many days for the sticker collection? Cuz I have wrongly typed my email address on the system so it's unable to receive the email from JIM (I made the payment through the eBayaran from official website).

    1. Hi, if you have made payment through eBayaran, you can make an appointment to collect the sticker. Print out your payment receipt and bring all your original document to collect the sticker at your selected branch.
