Located in Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the all-day dining restaurant serves a mixture of local and international fare. Featuring high ceilings and mosaic tile floorings with Peranakan features, the restaurant has a very classy yet elegant atmosphere. The cozy dining space is lit by hanging pewter lights and chandeliers, which creates a leisurely, intimate and relaxing environment for diners.
Situated at the lobby level of Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur hotel, Mosaic can be easily spotted upon arriving at the hotel lobby. The buffet is divided into several stations - Malay, Indian, Japanese / Ice Station (with cold seafood), Salad Bar, Grilled-Western, Western and Desserts Station. Food stations are well-arranged and easy to navigate.
Japanese / Ice Station
The Japanese Station offers a variety of Sashimi and Sushi, as well as cold seafood, There are only 4 types of cold seafood available - flower crabs, scallops, prawns and mussels. The seafood were fresh but I wish that they had more variety.
< Some of the popular dishes I found at the Grilled-Western Station are grilled oysters, grilled Salmon, grilled lamb racks and beef wellington. But unfortunately, the food was pretty disappointing. The grilled oysters were dry, lamb racks were tough and hard to eat. The beef wellington was okay, but I am not a fan of it.
Salad Bar
The Salad Bar showcases a large selection of fresh greens , as well as an assortment of cheese with condiments, ranging from soft goat cheese, cheddar cheese, blue cheese and cream cheese. The highlight for me is the smoked Salmon. The taste was slightly salty and slightly smoky with a smooth and silky texture. Interesting and delicious!
Western Station
The Western Station offers an assortment of breads, made-to-order pasta and 2 choices of soups, namely Tomato Bisque and Oxtail Soup. The soups were too salty to enjoy. Other than made-to-order pasta, they also offer beef Lasagna, baked macaroni and beef quesadilla. Among all, beef Lasagna and beef quesadilla are my favorites.
Malay & Indian Station
The Indian Station offers Nasi Daging, Satay and Otak Otak while the Indian Station offers several pots of curries, naans, Murtabaks and tandoori chicken. However, I can't really comment on the Malay and Indian food as I didn't eat any of them. Dessert Station
The Dessert Station offers a selection of bite size cakes, puddings, tarts, local Kuihs, Tong Sui and homemade ice creams. Although tasty, I found most of the desserts were too sweet to my taste
Conclusion
For RM 228 per pax, the food variety is rather limited. Overall, the food was so-so. Nothing to shout about as there were actually very few dishes that were worth getting a second scoop. For drinks, they only serve plain water, coffee or tea. If you want any other beverages, you will have to fork out extra money for them.
Although the food was a little underwhelming, service was fantastic. The staff were very attentive and polite. Our request for a window seat was not fulfilled, and we were actually assigned to be seated in the main dining area where it was a little crowded and noisy. However, upon our request, the staff moved us to a more private dining area where there were less people.
Oh, can I also mention that parking is outrageously expensive at the hotel? We were charged RM 34 for 4 hours of parking. I seriously feel that the hotel should offer a discount for people who dine at their restaurant.
