Marrying A Malaysian Part 2 : Obtaining a Long term Social Visit Pass (Spouse Pass) Malaysia

By Elin Chow - Sunday, December 22, 2013

Hey everyone! Sorry for the long absence. For the past 2 months, I have been busy settling down and adapting my new life in Kuala Lumpur (K.L), Malaysia. I promised I will be back with my regular posts from now on. If anyone of us wish to read about certain topic or issue, please drop me a comment or email. I will be very happy to research and write about it.

Okay, back to the post, as I have mentioned in one of my previous post, Marrying A Malaysia Part 1, I have legally registered my marriage to my Malaysian husband in K.L back in September. Currently, I am residing in K.L on a one year long term social visit pass (LTSVP), previously known as the spouse pass. Apart from that, another good news is I have also managed to secure a stable job in this entirely new city after having my work endorsement application granted by the Immigration Office.

As such, similar as before, I am documenting my experience in preparing all the necessary documents here for people who are in the same situation as me. Hopefully, I will be able to guide you through the whole complicated process in obtaining a LTSVP in order to reside and work permanently in Malaysia.

So why do you apply for a LTSVP, but not a permanent resident (PR)? This is due to the immigration laws of Malaysia. Different from Singapore or many other countries, a foreign spouse can only start applying for PR status after holding a LTSP for at least 5 years. Of course, he/she must remain be legally married to a Malaysia citizen in order to apply for a LTSVP.

Compared to those foreign spouses who married Malaysian many years ago, I must say I am a very lucky one. Thanks to the various changes made in the immigration laws in 2010, the application process has now be simplified and straightforward.

The LTSVP application must be submitted at any state immigration office, "Pass and Permit division".  In my case,  I did my application at the Jalan Duta office. The entire process will take a week to complete.

However, before you proceed to any state immigration office, I suggest having the documents listed below prepared to prevent a wasted trip.

1. Original and copy of Mykad of Malaysian spouse (all pages) - 2 copies

2. Original and copy of passport of foreign spouse (all pages) - 2 copies

3. 2 passport photo of Malaysian spouse

4. 2 passport photo of foreign spouse

5. 4R size wedding photo
You will need to paste your wedding photo in the center of a piece of A4 plain paper.

6. Original and copy of marriage certificate (Malaysia or foreign if married overseas)
If you have registered your marriage overseas, there are extra steps to complete before you could proceed for the LTSVP application.

7. Form Imm 12, Form Imm 55 & Form Imm 38 (2 copies each)
These forms cannot be downloaded online. Please Q up at the reception desk at the "Pass and Permit division" to get the forms from the immigration officer.

However, for me, Form Imm 55 is not required for me. This is for people who need to ask for a visa extension to remain in Malaysia while waiting for their LTSVP to be approved.

Once you have gotten the form from the officer at the reception desk, please fill them up accordingly. The forms are in Bahasa Malayu. For LTSVP application, I will really recommend for the Malaysian spouse to tag along during the whole process.

After you filled up the forms, please proceed to the Commissioner of Oaths office. There is one located at the ground floor in the Jalan Duta Office. Pass them the forms for them to do some stamping. This will cost you RM10. In the case where you do not know how to fill in some parts of the form, please do not worry. The officers at the Commissioner of Oaths office will be able to help you to complete them at a fee. If I did not remember wrongly, it cost another RM10.

After having everything above completed, please proceed back to the "Pass and Permit division". Get a number ticket from the reception desk. Submit all the documents to the immigration officer once your number is called. You will be given a receipt and ask to go back again a week later.

You are required to pay an amount as security bond before collecting your LTSP. The amount varies depending on your country of origin. You could refer here for the rate.

Normally, the initial LTSVP will run from 6 months to a year depending which country you are from. In the case for Singaporean, I am granted with a initial LTSVP of a year.

Work endorsement

For foreign spouses who wish to work or who has already found a job, please prepare the following documents listed below for your work endorsement application. The application itself should be simple and fast. In addition, it is free of charge.

1. Passport of foreign spouse (original & copy)

2. IC of Malaysian spouse (original & copy)

3. Resume/CV

4. Job offer letter

5. Stamped employment contract (Stamp Duty 10RM)
Please get your employment contract stamped at the Income Tax Office. The stamping will cost you RM 10. However, I paid RM 30 to the officer at the Commissioner of Oath office to have them bring the document to the Income Tax office for me.

6.Company forms 9, 24 & 49
To be provided by your employer

7. Company License
For certain industry only. I am not sure which industry required this. Please check.

8. Letter of application
Get this from the officer from the reception desk at the "Pass and Permit division".

9. Letter from husband if Malaysian citizen is male to allow female spouse to work
I simply typed a letter out and got my husband to sign on it.

The work endorsement application can be submitted together with your LTSVP application if ou have already found a job or after your LTSVP application has been approved. The whole process will take you only 3 working days.

So far, working in Malaysia is not bad thing for me. However, for foreign spouses who wish to be employed, there are a few things to note:

1. Paper qualifications are quite important and crucial in securing a well paying job. However, it is not as important as compared to Singapore.

2. For those who managed to get employed, please be prepared that 26% of your monthly income will be taxed. According to the taxation laws in Malaysia, foreigners will only become a tax resident after he/she has continously reside in the country for more than 183 days.

Having live in Singapore, which I believe has one of the lowest tax rate in the world for all my life, this came as a big surprise for me. However, I could only silently accept this and pray that time will pass faster.

3. You might face a lot of problems while looking for a job due to visa issues. As most of the employers are still unfamilar with the LTSVP, they might be reluctant to even offer you a chance for an interview. My only advice is not to give up on hope and keep applying for as many jobs as possible. Explain to the employers if they asked about the LTSVP and convince them that you have no problems in getting employed.

This post is solely based on my experience. The approval of your LTSVP is subjected to the immigration office. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop a comment here. I will try my best to help you.

  1. Hello, may i ask the detail about security bond please? Can i paid the amount in cash? Or Immigration Office only accept the cheque under Malaysia Bank?

Do we need to submit income proof? I'm no working for a years as planning to establish own business. Can we substitute this with the bank saving amount, properties (House, Car which has paid full) to show the sponsor's financial status are eligible to support living?

My wife currently are working in Singapore and plan to work in Malaysia if the LTSVP done. Do we need to get Work Endorsement first before we find and working in Malaysia? In this case, we won't be able provide the employment letter or offer that listed.

Do we really need to submit every single document that listed or some may no longer require since the simplified act has change? Or case to case basic? Like "Statutory Declaration marriage" has not been mentioned here but was listed on the Immigration website. Child Birth Cert not applicable since we don't have children yet.Right?

    1. Hi, I supposed you are a Malaysian and your wife is a Singaporean? Correct me if I am wrong. Now to answer your questions:

      1. I paid my security bond in cash since the amount was not huge. For Singaporean, this only cost me RM 200 + RM 90 for a one year visa. But I am not sure what is the case for other nationalities.

      2. For me, I was never asked to submit any proof of income, bank statement or anything to prove my Malaysian spouse's financial status. My husband and I moved back from Singapore to KL without a job or any savings. But still, I managed to get my LTSVP application approved.

3.No, you cannot apply for a work endorsement without securing a job first. Even if you applied, the immigration office will not grant you with that endorsement. You will be asked to go back to resubmit your application only after you havr gotten a job.

      4. Yes, you will need to submit every document listed here. Statutory Declaration Marriage is one of the form which the immigrant officer will pass to you to fill up when you visited their office. After you have filled up, bring the form and your marriage certificate along to get it stamped by the Commission of Oaths before submitting back to the immigration officer.

The process will get more complicated and tedious if you did not register your marriage in Malaysia. If you are holding an overseas marriage certificate, I believe you are required to get some extra stamping done before applying fir a LTSVP.

As for birth certificate, it is not required if you do not have any children.

I hope these answer your questions.

    2. Only a Banker's Cheque was acceptable at the Penang Immigration Office for the Security Bond plus the other fees which amounted to RM2602 in total. Only certain banks were allowed for some reason. Since some banks in Malaysia will not simply sell a bank cheque for cash to a non-account holder we had to run around quickly to find a Maybank, where we then deposited our cash and the Banker's Cheques for Immigration (plus small RM5.50 fee) were funded via debit from my wife's account. Then a mad dash back to Immigration (it was Friday) and directly to cashier's window, and all was well. LTSVP was affixed to my passport. Cash was not acceptable for this Bond payment, which surprised me. Not point arguing with them, obviously. It is good to know that only Ambank, Maybank, RHB, Public, and CIMB were allowed. Why? No clue. Good idea to know which bank office you're going to beforehand. At the bank of course its another case of take-a-number-and-wait, so best to plan for that. There was an application form at the bank to be completed, so again the process was fairly tedious like everything else connected with the LTSVP.

  2. Hello elin, it's good to get your reply and your Blog definitely would help alot of couples. Just to share with you I'm Malaysian from Johor while my wife's nationality are Republic of China. We both been working in Singapore for 7 years and was ROM in JPN Johor in 2013. We been gone through series of tough test of journey from Embassy of Malaysia in China, and some endorsement and approval from Putrajaya Immigration HQ before have the ROM done and at the last marriage ceremony in church.

For your information, all the application related to PRChina will refer to Putrajaya Immigration HQ. According to list, security bond for China is RM1500. Do we have the option just to paid in cash (because i saw some other related topic blog mentioned they don't accept cash?) Where we paid this? On the designated counter on the same place? This have to be done upon submit document or after upon come back collection after a week.

The IM. 12 must be in type. Canno5 filled the form with hand writing?

Commisioner of Oath can be at the same buiding? When i apply ROM there is office on ground floor handle this matters. Do you able provide some information regard this?

I'm heading Putrajaya this Friday. Your speedy answer is very appreciated. Thank you very mych.

    1. I am not sure whether Putrajaya accept cash. I saw other related blog mentioning that they do not accept cash payment as well. Initially I was worried but lucky the immigration office in Jalan Duta accepted cash as a payment. But just to let you know. RM1500 is only for security bond and does not include the fee for the LTSVP. F

If I am not wrong, I believe China nationality would only be granted a inital 6 months LTSVP instead of one year. For me, I got a one year LTSVP, which cost RM 90 each year. So after 6 months, you have be back at Putrajaya to renew that LTSVP. It will be difficult to secure a job with just a 6 months LTSVP.

You only make payment when you are back to collect the LTSVP. There should be a counter at the same place for your to make payment. The immigration officer will instruct you what to do.

I filled up all the forms in handwriting and did not encounter any problem for that. In fact, all the applicants filled up the forms in handwriting too.

I am not whether the Commission of Oath is in the same building since I have never been to Putrajaya before. For Jalan Duta, it is in the same building.

    1. Hi, you just need 1 pc of the 4R size wedding Photo. For those registered their marriage overseas, make sure you have registered your foreign marriage with Registrars of Marriage Malaysia within 6 months after your overseas marriage. If you are late, you have to pay a penalty fee of RM 100 for the first year and RM 50 for each subsequent year. If your marriage certificate is not in English, please get it translated.n After that, you have get a Extract of your marriage from JPN office Putrajaya. I believe this is most of it. I do not know the details. It will be good to check with the relevant authorities or do some research.

  6. Hi Elin,

I'm a Hong Kong girl and going to marry a Malaysian guy on 30 Jan 2015. I moved to KL in mid Dec 2014 and have definitely suffered the complicated process in applying for visa extension after ROM application. Officer advised me to go Singapore once and enter into Malaysia again in order to get eligibility for staying more 30 days when I asked to extend my visa and planned to wait till 30 Jan (I was said that they can extend 30 days but it changes the version to 7 days when I took action to apply).

Anyway, I've been back from SG now and going to apply for LTSVP on 3 Feb, according to your post, it will take 7 working days, it means I have to go back for collection around 11 or 12 Feb. But my visa will expire on 9 or 10 Feb. Aiiiiii........I wonder if I need to fill in and submit Form Imm 55 on 3 Feb? As you know, how many days do they usually grant for Malaysian spouses?

Another question is if I need to take official wedding photo in 4R size? Do you know the definition of "Wedding Photo"?

One more question is if the security bond will be refunded when LTSVP is granted?

Can't imagine how much will suffer for visa issue from now onwards. Thanks in advance Elin!!!!

    1. Hi,
      To answer your questions,

      1. Yes, you need to fill in and submit Form Imm 55 when you applied your LTSVP on 3rd Feb. If I am not wrong, you will be required to pay an extra extension fee for this. I believe you would get a visa extension of 1 month.

      2. I didn't have any wedding photo, so I asked my family to help us snap one at home. The link attached below is the photo I sent in.
      http://elinchow.blogspot.com/2014/09/our-1st-wedding-anniversary-my.html

3.No. The security bond will not be refunded after your LTSVP is granted. You will have to pay an additional RM90 if you managed to get a one year LTSVP.

I'm the Hong Kong girl who had a post to you on 13 JAN 2015. Thanks a million for your prompt reply.

I am curious and worried for another issue right now which is about eligibility for work in Malaysia. I heard from someone here who said I am eligible for working in 6 months later upon successfully granted me a LTSVP. Let's say I will be granted it as expected in early Feb 2015, which means i am allowed to work around AUG to SEP 2015? OMG!!! If it is true, it will be bad for me to stay jobless for so long.

How about your case? Can you share yours to me? Thanks in advance for your reply and sharing.

    1. Hi, I have heard about this before and initially, I feel worried like you too. But then, this is not the case for me. I got my LTSVP in Sep and started working in Nov. I have no problem getting the job endorsement from the immigration office just two months after I got my LTSVP. I am not sure whether your case will be the same as mine, but I think it should not differ too much. One thing I am sure is I got an initial one year LTSVP whereas a china spouse is only granted 6 months. With a 6 months LTSVP, employer will be very reluctant to hire you. In fact, I have encountered lots of difficulties finding a job in Malaysia due to many other factors even though I have a one year LTSVP.

  9. Hi Elin,

Thanks for your reply. I am worried another problem is that I have no driving license but going to learn it here. Do you have license before moving into Malaysia? I think this is one of the factors before employers decide to hire me or not.

    1. Hi, I have a Singapore driving license but I could not really drive. Until now, I do not understand how I managed to pass my driving test in the first place. lol Having one does not help you on securing a job. It just provide you the convieniece and flexibility while you are looking for a job, especially if you do not live in KL. For me, I travel on the LRT to work everyday. So, having a driving license or not is not very important to me.

  10. Hi Elin,

I went to immigration office to apply for LTSVP and the officer replied me that I will be granted six months visa only. Moreover, I am not allowed to work during these six months. So sad and disappointed when heard of it.

Meanwhile, I asked for extension for my visa (expired on 10 Feb 2015) in order to wait for LTSVP , the officer did not allow and asked me to come once again on 10 Feb and see if the process of application for LTSVP has been completed. I am able to apply for extension (only 7 days) if the process has not yet completed.

    Just for sharing.....so frustrated!!!!

  13. I am. Malaysian and my husband is Greek. His initial application for LTSVP, he was only grated 6 months which i believe was due to the fact that we were married for less than 6 months. With a 6 months visa, employment is not allowed and it is stated in the VIsa.

Our process is also slightly different as my husbands documents were all in Greek so there was a need to get them professionally translated, certified by the Greek Consulate in KL and then by the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Putrajaya.

To also add as i saw this question was posted earlier, there is a Commissioner of Oath in Putrajaya located on the Ground floor at the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara building.

    Hope this helps!

    1. Hi Sharon, it doesn't matter how long you are married as initial application for LTSVP only run for 6 months. Only Singaporeans are granted a year LTVSP. I have no problem getting myself employed right after my LTVSP is granted. The challenging part will be to convince your potential employer to hire a foreigner.

If he marries my daughter can he get a LTSVP or will they simply kick him out of the country / put him in a detention center, or what? He has a valid Syrian passport, recently renewed. Obviously I am reluctant to grant marriage permission under circumstances in which his status here would remain uncertain.

  16. Hi Elin,

During the process of applying, do you need to reside in Malaysia all the time? I am recently residing in Johor but working in Singapore, back in 2012 we tried to apply for LTSVP but different officer are telling different version about applying it.

Anyway, I was told that I could not leave Malaysia during the period of application. In my case, I need to go to work daily? So I was told that on top of the security bond, I need to pay additional RM500 should I leave Malaysia. Is this true? I recalled that even for the oath commisioner I paid for about RM100++ and after going back for another round to the immigration. I was told that on top of the security bond, I need to pay additional RM500 should I leave Malaysia. Is this true? I was fed up with the different comments from those officer and decided to get MACS instead.

But recently, one of the immigration officer noted that I am married to a Malaysian and should report and get LTSVP. My MACS is expiring and I am worried I would not be able to renew it.

Do you stay in Malaysia through out your LTVSP application?

    Thank you

There is no faster way to apply for the LTSVP. I will suggest your wife to visit Singapore and re-enter into Malaysia again. This will help to extend her stay in Malaysia. Send in her application for the LTSVP immediately once she re-enter into Malaysia. The entire process will take about a week.

  18. Hi, I'm the Hong Kong girl who always dropped you comments before. How is your life? I have encountered so many frustrating issues in the past 6 months (such as driving learning) and finally renewed my LTVP yesterday. However, a statement in the visa confused me a lot which is "Any form of employment is strictly prohibited", I wonder if I am unable to work due to this statement? or things can be changed if I have letter of offer and employment contract for endorsement to work?

As per the officer who granted me the first 6 months of LTVP, I was unable to work. So therefore, I have just started my job hunting for a week upon renewal of my visa. The process is definitely disappointing.

    1. Hi Janice,

I am doing well. I can totally understand your frustration as I have experienced the same things before too. But don't give up. You have to keep on trying and I believe success will be on your way. Now, to answer your questions,

The statement that stated "Any form of employment is strictly prohibited" will be removed once you are granted an endorsement to work. Your passport will be updated with a new stamp that grant you the permission to work. So you don't have to worry too much about that. The most challenging part is to secure a job in Malaysia, where employers are unfamiliar with the LTSVP. You have to convince them that you will settle the visa on your own. And for your information, you do not need to contribute to EPF. This will help the employer to save extra cost.

I have already listed everything in details in this blog post. You cannot download the forms. The forms have to be obtained from the immigration office. To apply, you have to visit the state immigration office in Johor. Not the usual one where you make your passport or Mykad.

  20. Hi Elin,

Thanks for your prompt reply and your information.

Before moving, I did read some information about EPF on foreign employees. Unbelievable and daren't read more which must deter me. You said "you do not need to contribute to EPF" in the reply. It means the employer doesn't need to contribute EPF on me? for the whole employment period or certain period only?

The policies imposed on foreigners are really bad here. I am thinking I may go back Hong Kong for career if I am unable to get a job here by end of this year.

    1. Hi Janice,
Yes, the employer do not need to contribute EPF for you. You also do not need to deduct EPF from your salary. Until you become PR of Malaysia. I agree that the policies imposed on foreigners are really bad in Malaysia. But everything has its pros and cons. Has you discuss about this issue with your husband? You may explore other alternatives like working online if money is not an issue for you. It will not be easy to separate with your husband if you are going back to Hong Kong.

That's really good to hear from you. I only paid RM 200 for security bond and RM 90 for a one year visa during my initial application. I think there is an increase in the visa fee recently. But increasing from RM 90 to RM 105 is a bit too much (GST 6% is only RM 5.40).

What a nice written blog you have here. I'm a Malaysian guy with Singapore PR and married to a Filipino girl.
Currently we residing in Singapore but decided to stay in Malaysia soon so I need to apply her Malaysian LTSVP. May I know the one week processing time is include non working day or strictly 7 work days?

    Thanks in advance.

  26. Hi Elin,

I'm Indonesian who currently working under Employment Pass. Next week I'll marry my Malaysian boyfriend. I would like to ask once you holding LTSVP, do you still need to pay for the 26% tax? Because I'm thinking to convert my EP to LTSVP (after 6 months of my marriage), but if already got LTSVP then still deduct tax 26%, make as well I don't change my EP.

    Thanks in advance.

I referred your blog when I was applying for my husband's LTSVP! Thanks!

I've been told to come back 1 month later to collect the LTSVP. Do we need to check the status of the application during this hiatus? Also, do you know what time of the day do we go back to the immigration office to collect the LTSVP? Do we need to go there again super early in the morning to get a number?

    Thanks!

  28. Hi Elin. Yessssaaa!!! Finally i found a singaporean married to a malaysian man blog. I am in a similar situation as urs. Married to a malaysian man but was told a different story at the immigration dept side abt me obtaining the LTSVP. Anyway to cut the long story short, I am going to the Shah Alam Immigration Dept to submit my application tomorrow 8th dec. As u mention in ur blog, Singaporeans only need to pay RM200+RM90 in total right? And as for the LTSVP for singaporeans, is it confirm dat we will get a 1 yr LTSVP? Based on the check list given, we have to produce 4 pcs of passport sized photo for foreign wife n 2 pcs for malaysian husband.Do i have to paste it on the form itself first or it will be done there by the staff? Once application submited, are we allowed to go out of malaysia cos Im going back to singapore on the 12th dec to attend my bro's engagement ceremony but will be returning to kl again on the 15th.

    Thanks dear friend..!!

    1. Hi,

Yes, that was the price I paid 2 years ago. I was granted a one year LTSVP. But I am not sure whether this will apply to all Singaporeans. Have you gotten all the forms? If yes, you can paste your photos on them. If not, you can paste it on the day of your application. You are allowed to leave Malaysia after your application.

  29. Yup. All forms are filled up, stamp by the commissioner of oath accordingly .. simply said all set n ready. Hopefully everything will go smoothly tomorrow. Wish me luck..!!

Thanks again from a fellow singaporean in Selangor.

  30. Elin, hello!
I am planning to marry a Malaysian citizen and move from the USA to Penang. I should not be confident in moving unless I had the LTSVP. How much time do you think I should allow to marry in ML and get the LTSVP issued? (I have concluded it is best for me to do everything in Malaysia, not marry in the USA.) Employment for me is not important as I am retired with a pension. Also: is the LTSVP picked up in person only ? I need to plan the length of my stay; this is mainly why I ask. Then I will return to the US to arrange for the move.
    Thanks!

    1. hi "The Tiny Chapel"

I've been through the entire process in the early of this year, while I'm base in Kuala Lumpur. Hopes it would help.

      (1) Firstly, where you get married is not big deal. To get a Malaysia Marriage Certificate is compulsory for your visa application. That's because Malaysia requires to re-register marriage for Malaysian if getting married oversea not exceed than 6 months from date of marriage. Perhaps visit your nearest Malaysia High Comm/Embassy would be good.
      **please refer to http://www.jpn.gov.my/en/perkhidmatan/pendaftaran-semula-perkahwinan-bagi-pasangan-bukan-islam-yang-telah-didaftarkan-mengikut-undang-undang-negara-asing-pada-atau-selepas-01-03-1982/

(2)second step, you will need move to Malaysia to apply LTSVP in person at immigration office. Both husband and wife MUST present at the time of application and you will get a visa at the same day. The documents required are pretty straight forward, Please refer to:http://www.imi.gov.my/index.php/en/main-services/pass/7-perkhidmatan-utama/278-required-documents.
Tip 1 ** your Malaysia spouse MUST be your sponsor. you will produce his/her income statement/bank statement. As you mentioned, you're retired age. cash in his/her bank account would be fair enough (unless he/she would produce evidence of income/fund).
Tip 2 ** Residence address is the evidence of a place where you both physically live together. It's basically for purpose of "fake marriage". It would be the best to produce the latest electricity bill/water bill/telephone bill/land tax bill or assessment bill (if owning property) which it clearly shows the name of your Malaysian spouse.
Tip 3 ** For some other documents, you will need run to Inland Revenue Board for stamping security bond form and commissioner of Oaths for affixing a statutory declaration.
(3)Third, for American you're allowed to enter into Malaysia within 90days via a visitor visa. You should be get everything done within 90 days.
      (4) Never be the end, I would personally advise you to appoint a runner/agent paying some fees to be "hassle free", just penny in dollar.
      GOOd Luck

      Best wishes,
      JEssie

      1) initial Visa is granted for 6months. It depends on your nationality.

  34. Hi Elin,

    I have 3 questions.

    1) You mentioned foreign wedding cert required additional steps. For your case, do you need to submit your sg wedding cert and is translation required?

2)How long do you wait till you received your LTSVP after paid for the security bond (which is one week after you submit application)? This concern my wife whether to get an extension to her visa as her initial single entry is only valid for 30 days.

    3) Proof of income required? spouse bank statement?

Appreciate your comments so I can prepare upfront.

    Thanks in advance Elin

      To answer your questions:

      1) I registered my marriage in Malaysia. Thus, I did not have a Singapore marriage cert. This is why I keep advising people to register their marriage in Malaysia if they plan to apply for LTSVP Malaysia.

      2) You will receive your LTSVP on the day you paid for the security bond and visa fee.

3)I did not submit proof of income and bank statement. But it may vary for different people

I have a copy of the work endorsement form and I just noticed that it is stated there:

    9. Kelayakan permohonan adalah untuk pas jangka masa panjang sekurang-kurangnya 12 BULAN
(Eligibility of the application is for long term pass at least 12 MONTHS)

This effectively means that you cannot apply for work endorsement if your current pass is only 6 months which some here get the first time they apply for ltsvp. Is there any other option?

Just to share. I'm Indonesian married to Malaysian guy. My initial visa is 6 months. I renew my visa 28days b4 expired bcoz i ady got job offer. So when i renew, immigration asked me to make a letter why do i need to renew earlier. Luckily immigration approved my visa to 1yr visa. I get it on the same day. Even it's 1yr visa still stated "any form of employment is prohibited". Due to i ady prepared offer letter and other documents required, on the same day i apply work endorsement. The process took 3 days. The passport will stamp permission to work and the word "any form of employment is prohibited" will be strikethrough. Btw i heard that immigration can give 6months visa for few times. Don't know for what reason.

  56. Hi Chanel,

Be prepared to face lots of challenges when you are looking for a job in KL. There are no requirement, rather it is more about a matter of luck. I believe part of the reason why I can find a job in KL is because I am in the accounting line. It is always easier to find an accounting job anywhere in the world.

I look for jobs on Jobstreet, just like in Singapore, right after I got my LTSVP. It took months to find a job. But most importantly, do not give up. Keep applying and I believe you will eventually find a job.

Local companies can hire LTSVP employees like local employees. They do not have to deal with the ESD because LTSVP holders have their own permit to work. 1. Hi Rae,

As far as I know, you are probably not allowed to work if you are granted an initial LTSVP of 6 months. I was granted a one year LTSVP for my 1st application, and yes, you can either apply the work endorsement together with your LTSVP application (if you have found a job) or after you have been granted a LTSVP (once you have found a job). For this case, you would probably only be allowed to work after 6 months, once you apply for renewal for your LTSVP. Perhaps you could make a trip to the immigration office and try your luck because you know, sometimes, everyone tend to tell you different things.

  71. Just to share few things from my experience in applying for LTSVP. Thanks to Elin for establishing this platform.

    - Application forms are issued at the Counters in Immigration office. Downloaded ones are not accepted. Prepare for more than one visit. I had to visit twice, firstly to receive the application form (read the requirements carefully and clarify if you have any doubts before leaving office). Secondly for submission.

    - Marriage Registrations in Malaysia simplify the process compared to those registered outside. The Certificates have to be issued and stamped by the local Immigration office in any Malaysian state.
The process would become more speedy if the State of Marriage Registration and the State where you are applying for LTSVP are the same.

    - Procedure differ between States. I work in Gulf and applied LTSVP in Johor and got a year LTSVP initially and thereafter a 5 year one during the renewal as I fall under Spouse category. LTSVP is a Multiple entry visa so you'd have no problem going in and out of Malaysia till it's valid. It is only during the application time you will be required to stay within Malaysia.

    - For those who want to apply but work outside Malaysia, plan ahead for a stay of 1 to 3 weeks in Malaysia between the date of application and receiving the LTSVP stamped on your pp. There may be cases you will be asked to bring further details after a week's process so be prepared. Take with you a letter from your company confirming your employment as part of the document.

Sorry to reply so late, I've just found out the procedure. It's not a problem to co-own the property (I'm not sure if it's the same for property below 1M). However, your spouse will be treated as a foreigner even if she's holding a PR. Depending on the state you wish to purchase the property, you need to get a consent from the state government and this can take up to 9 months. On top of that, you will have to fork out more money for the application that can cost easily 20-30k. It's totally absurd!

If your spouse is comfortable with it, there's another way to save cost and money. You can purchase the property under your name, and your lawyer can draft a document stating that the property belongs to both of you.

I'm meeting up with my lawyer, if there is any new info I'll keep you posted.

  76. Dear Nabila,

I assume you are already in possession of a Marriage Certificate issued in Malaysia certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Putrajaya. If that is the case, I don't think there would be a necessity for your hubby to travel out as far as I know. I doubt there exists a special application for a Student pass-LTSVP conversion, however in any case an LTSVP application would come to play here. You have to anyways get a clearer picture by visiting the local Immigration dept in your state. The process may slightly differ between States.
Let's wait and see if any of the members here have any say.

    Kannan.

  82. Dear Hua,

You could apply for LTSVP at the Immigration dept in the State you reside or where your mykad was issued. The process is faster if the State where your marriage certificate was issued and the State where you reside is the same.
Yes the LTSVP applicant has to stay in Malaysia throughout the application process as far as I can remember. You could have things clarified at the Immigration dept in Setia Tropica in Johor.

  86. Dear Raja,

As a spouse you are eligible to apply for LTSVP. There was a condition before that the application for LTSVP should be submitted after six months from date of Marriage registration in Malaysia, not before that. I am not certain this condition still exist. You may verify this by calling Dept of Immigration. Another condition would be for you to stay in Malaysia during the initial LTSVP application process till it is completed. This might generally take a week upto three. The LTSVP is issued in various period beginning from six months, one year and thereafter three or five years depending on nationality. First six months may cost somewhere roughly between RM 600 to RM 650 in total.

Just to add to most of what’s shared. The application for LTSVP is done after 6months of marriage and exiting the country is subject to the officer on duty when submitting your application (for those holding a student pass).

As for now, we are residing in Singapore, and have registered our marriage in the Malaysia Embassy in Singapore in Sept 2018.

I am currently in Malaysia on employment pass. My wife is Malaysian and we were married in Malaysia only a few months ago. In your experience, would it cause any issues if we were to apply for LTVSP with work endorsement for myself? As you may understand I do not wish to disrupt my work in any way, and would rather continue on my EP if there’s a chance the work endorsement may not come with the LTSVP. We are interested in the LTSVP for long term purposes.

    Grateful for your opinion.
