I have been using this Nature Republic 100% Jelly Cleansing Puff in Red Clay since two years ago. Why did I started using this puff? Well, I remember that I was searching for a cleansing puff that could help to improve my dull and oily skin. So, after reading many rave reviews about the Nature 100% Jelly Cleansing Puff on the internet, I decided to try this little squishy sponge out.

What Does Nature Republic Says

Made up of 90% Konjac and 10% Korean Red Clay, the Nature Republic 100% Jelly Cleansing Puff - Red Clay helps to remove dirt and absorbs excess sebum without over drying the skin. The soft texture of the puff efficiently slough off flaky skin without causing irritation or redness, thus creating a smooth and healthy looking skin. Suitable for people with oily or combination skin.

Benefits Of Konjac Sponge

The Konjac plant, also known as the Devil's Tongue for its unusual appearance, is a plant that grows all across Japan, China and South East Asia.

Made from the root of the Konjac plant, the Konjac sponge efficiently remove dirt, oil and blackheads from your skin. Konjac sponge is highly recommended for anyone with acne or clogged pores due to its ability in clearing clogged pores, reducing breakouts and inflammation. For people with sun-damaged skin, Konjac sponge is gentle enough to slough off dull and flaky skin, thus delivering a smoother, softer and healthier looking skin.

Konjac plant is also rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D and E, Proteins, Lipids, Fatty Acids and natural minerials such as Copper, Zinc, Iron and Magnesium. These ingredients helps to nourish and smoothen your skin naturally without irritating or causing redness to it.

Types Of Cleansing Puffs

There are basically three types of cleansing puffs for you to choose from, each targeted for different skin care needs.

1. Vegetable Konjac

Made of 100% vegetable plant root, the Nature Republic 100% Vegetable Jelly Cleansing Puff gently clean the skin deeply while leaving your skin smooth and hydrated. It helps to balance PH levels in the skin. thus reducing the occurrence of acne, blackheads or dryness. Suitable for all skin types.

2. Bamboo Charcoal Konjac

Made up of 90% Konjac and 10% Bamboo Charcoal, the Nature Republic 100% Charcoal Jelly Cleansing Puff helps to cleanse and purify the skin deeply. It keeps the face moisturized and protect the skin from sebum. Suitable for all skin types too.

Since my oily skin is always my main concern, I chose to purchase their Red Clay Cleansing Puff, which I hope would provide some levels of oil control to my skin.

What I Like About This Cleansing Puff

1. Cleans Well

The puff actually makes my facial cleanser foam very well and I really love how clean and refreshed my skin always feels every time after I washed my face with this cleansing puff.

Apart from that, this puff also does a great job in exfoliating my skin and leaves my face feeling softer and looking healthier after cleansing. The texture of the puff is very soft and does not irritates my skin at all. Yet, I am surprised that it is actually rough enough in helping me to remove some of the most stubborn dirt, excess oil and dead cells from my skin.

Since I started using this cleansing puff, I have noticed that my face has become less oily than before, which in fact has helped to reduce the occurrence of breakouts. My skin does not feel tight or dry after I washed my face with this puff. However, I am not sure whether this is effective in getting rid of blackheads or whiteheads as I have yet to notice a huge difference.

Just like most of the Konjac sponges which you would find in the market, the Nature Republic 100% Red Clay Jelly Cleaning Puff comes in a domed shape, flat on one side and domed on the other. The dome shape actually fits in nicely in my hand, making it easy to hold.

What I Dislike About This Cleansing Puff

1. Costly

I actually purchased this Nature Republic 100% Red Clay Jelly Cleansing Puff from one of the Qoo10 Singapore online store when I was still in Singapore. Each piece of puff only cost me about SGD 5 to get it shipped from Korea to Singapore. Can you believe how cheap and affordable was that?

But now... I am very surprised that a SGD 5 puff would easily cost me around RM 40 if I were to have it shipped to Malaysia. I really find the price a bit ridiculous and definitely, I will not repurchasing it again any time soon. Well, it is not that I do not want to because I really love using this cleansing puff very much. But the price is simply just too unacceptable for me to make a purchase and ship to Malaysia. So, if anyone of you know where I could get this cleansing puff at a cheaper price online, please let me know.

2. Short Lifespan

Konjac sponges generally have very short lifespans as they tend to get mouldy or worn out very quickly, thus are required to be replaced once every one to two months. This is also another reason why I am unwilling to pay RM 40 for something which I am going to throw away every one to two months. Unless I am relatively well-off.

How To Use This Cleansing Puff

Konjac sponges are very hard when they are dry, so make sure you wait until it is soft before using it on your face. This is to avoid injuring your skin.

To soften the puff,  rinse and allow the dry Konjac sponge to fully absorb water until it feels soft and squishy in your hands. Then, wet your face with some water and squeeze a bit of your everyday facial cleanser on the flat side of the cleansing puff. For me, I would be using my EverSoft Ginkgo with Grapefruit Facial Cleanser. Sometimes, I would choose to use this cleansing puff without applying any facial cleanser to it. But whether you use it with or without a facial cleanser, it is up to your personal liking.

Massage the puff gently onto your face in a circular motion. Once you have finished cleansing, rinse the puff with clean water and squeeze out all the excess water.

The cleansing puff actually comes with a string attached to it, so you could hang it up somewhere to dry once you are done cleansing your face. Make sure you hang it up in a well-ventilated space to dry to slow down the growth of bacteria and mold on the puff.

Final Thoughts

Adding a Konjac sponge into your everyday cleansing routine could make a big difference, especially for people with oily and acne-prone skin. Konjac sponges are extremely gentle cleanser, thus it can be used on skin types. To me, this is just the perfect thing to use if I wish to exfoliate my skin everyday. You could also use it twice a week if you hate the idea of exfoliating everyday.

For me, I am really glad that I have found the Nature Republic 100% Red Clay Jelly Cleansing Puff. Using it to wash my face has really helped to improve my skin greatly and will definitely continue to purchase this puff if not for the price. Hopefully, I would be able to find a cheaper alternative to replace it.

If you have purchased the Nature Republic 100% Jelly Cleansing Puff online, do not be too surprised if you have received a air-tight plastic pouch with a slightly damp sponge. In fact, almost all of the Konjac sponges brands in the market also packaged and shipped its products slightly wet too. I am not sure what is the real reason, but I guess this is probably to keep the sponges hydrated, thus preventing it from cracking and breaking off during shipment.
