Launched in 1983 in Germany, Knoppers has been popular with both adults and kids worldwide. The milk-hazelnut wafer is often marketed as an in-between meal snack or breakfast food in Germany. However, it is a bit hard to find in Malaysia. I found this while I was browsing through Lazada and immediately bought it to try. You can also get this from Shopee.
INGREDIENTS
Sugar, Vegetable Fats, Wheat Flour, Skimmed Milk Powder, Hazelnut, Whole Wheat Flour, Alkalized Cocoa Powder, Clarified Butter, Fat-Reduced Cocoa Powder, Whey Powder, Wheat Starch, Emulsifier, Soya Lecithin, Cream Powder, Salt, Natural Flavors
According to the ingredient list, it contains Ground Peanuts, Shea Nuts, Gluten from Wheat, Milk, Hazelnuts and Soy. They are also processed in a facility where parts of Almond, Peanut, other Tree Nuts and Eggs may be present.
Each Knoppers wafer has 138 calories. I think they are great for afternoon snacks, but I would not classify them as a breakfast food. The individually packed bite sized serving makes it easy to carry and enjoy anywhere I want.
The milk hazelnut wafer consists of five layers of yummy-ness such as crispy baked wafer biscuits, creamy hazelnut filling, milk cream, cocoa and crunch roasted hazelnuts pieces. It has a deliciously rich chocolate hazelnut flavor and a delightful crunch. It is sweet, but not terribly sweet, with a few nutty nibby bits between the spread.
I think the creamy milk layer blends with the chocolate hazelnut flavor perfectly, which brings layers of flavor into every bite. Personally, I feel that it tastes a bit like Kinder Bueno / Ferrero Rocher. It is light, milky, nutty and addictive. This is definitely one of the most delicious wafer biscuits I had eaten so far!
One regular sized of Knoppers is actually quite filling. Therefore, I think it makes a really good afternoon snack that will provide you with enough energy to last through your day.
