On the ground floor of Danau Kota Suite Apartment in Setapak Kuala Lumpur, you will find the Jia Kopitiam, which is like a more high-end kopitiam (traditional coffee shop) that serves a variety of local delicacies.

The place is usually very busy during breakfast and lunch time, so you may want to consider avoiding these peak hours if you hate the queue.

The extensive menu offers a variety of local favorites like Nasi Lemak, Chicken Rice, Prawn Mee and Chee Cheong Fun to name a few.

Home Cooked Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken

Price: RM 12.80

I ordered their signature Home Cooked Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken. This is actually one of their highly recommended dishes, so naturally, I have relatively high expectations for this dish. However, it was very disappointing.

The taste of it was very mediocre. First of all, the rice was not fragrant at all. I don't think they cooked the rice with coconut milk and Pandan leaves. Secondly, the Sambal, which is considered a soul of Nasi Lemak, was neither sweet nor spicy. It wasn't aromatic either. Furthermore, they seemed pretty stingy with their Sambal, considering the amount of rice.

Lastly, the fried chicken, which I believe is the main star of the dish. But unfortunately, it didn't impress me as well. Although it was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, I find it a little under seasoned. As a result, it does not go well with rice, which was also pretty bland.

It was not cheap, but the portion was quite huge and can be shared by two persons (if you have a tiny stomach). However, I would not recommend this dish unless you want a filing meal.

Penang Prawn Mee

Price: RM 9.80

The Penang Prawn Mee was also a disappointment. One can tell from a glance that it was lacking in flavor. The soup, which is the key to Prawn Mee, was pretty diluted. Therefore, it tasted really bland. To be honest, I don't think this is good enough to be called the "Penang Prawn Mee."

Curry Chee Cheong Fun

Price: RM 2.80

The portion of the Chee Cheong Fun was pretty big for the price we paid. However, just like the Penang Prawn Mee, the curry was a little diluted. The taste of it was so-so. Although it was not impressive, it was very filling.

CONCLUSION

Overall, the food was nothing to shout about. The service was fast and great, but the quality of food definitely need to be improved. The whole place was air-conditioned and clean, so the environment was pretty comfortable to dine in.
