Have you ever tried the famous Lala (clams) noodles from Lai Foong? The restaurant has recently opened a 2nd outlet in Kuala Lumpur,  just a 5 minutes walk away from the original stall and Central Market.

Lai Foong has grown from a humble beginning. Originally just a small noodle stall at Kedai Kopi Lai Foong, it has grown to become a crowd favorite. The flavorful bowl of soup and noodle has become so famous that it often has a long waiting time during peak hours.

We arrived around lunch time and were lucky to be able to get a table without waiting. The restaurant serves only three dishes: Lala noodle, Freshwater prawns noodle and a mix of Freshwater prawns and Lala noodle.

We ordered a bowl of Lala noodle and a bowl of mixed prawns and Lala noodles to share. A bowl of  Lala noodle cost RM 11 and a bowl of  Freshwater Prawns & Lala noodle cost RM 23. You can also order noodle with only Freshwater prawns if you are not a fan of lala at RM 18 a bowl.

The price might seems a bit expensive but it is worth it as you will get a large bowl of seafood goodness. It takes about 10 minutes for our order to be served.

Lala Noodle

Cooked upon order, the each bowl of noodle is served piping hot and garnished with green scallions. The huge bowl of noodle comes with a generous amount of lala (clams), shredded ginger, chopped red chill and rice vermicelli. Infused with a splash of Shaoxing wine, the soup was delicious and packed full of flavor.  It was a little spicy due to the shredded ginger and chili. You can actually request for no chili if you cannot take spicy food.

The rice vermicelli absorbed the flavorful soup, making every slurp a delicious experience. Every slurp of the soup will give you the warmth and satisfaction that you seek, especially on a cold rainy day.

The lala, however, were a little small but fresh and tasty. I love that the lala were thoroughly cleaned with all the mud and sand sediments removed.  It would be perfect if the lala were larger in size.

Freshwater Prawns & Lala Noodle
The Fresh Water Prawns and Lala noodle was equally delicious as well. It comes with a generous amount of lala (clams), shredded ginger, chopped red chill, rice vermicelli and two large freshwater prawns.  The prawns added more flavor and sweetness to the soup. An absolute delight!

The prawns were fresh and decently sized. It has a delicate sweet flavor, and somewhat like lobster, firm and white flesh. I can easily finish the soup till to the last drop. So yummy!
