Gohtong Jaya, a satellite town located 5 km below the peak of Genting Highlands, is a popular dining spot for visitors travelling up the hill or on the way down to Kuala Lumpur.  The small town itself consists of shophouses, most of which are occupied by Chinese restaurants.

Due to the town's popularity, traffic jams are common in this area as the narrow road was often packed with cars. Parking can be a challenge during peak hours, especially dinner time. Most of the restaurants here also have long wait time for tables during dinner time, so I would really recommend coming early or slightly later to avoid the crowds.

We initially planned to have our dinner at Chuan Kie Restaurant, but decided to search for another restaurant with available tables as there was a long queue when we arrived. It was a public holiday, and most of the restaurants were packed to the brim. In the end, we chose to eat at Ze Yuan Seafood Restaurant that was located a few shop lots away from Chuan Kie Restaurant.

Ze Yuan Seafood Restaurant is not as popular as Chuan Kie Restaurant or Loong Kee Restaurant. While the other restaurants were packed full of diners,  Ze Yuan still have a few empty tables available.

Stepping into the restaurant, we were surprised to find that the restaurant has installed barriers to separate tables. Although the barriers create more privacy for diners, they also make the space feel cramped.

Claypot KangKung
Price: RM 18

We ordered Claypot Kangkung, but it was very disappointing. The dish was lacking in aroma and taste.
It does not contain pork lard or shrimp paste, hence the food taste pretty bland. All I can taste was the green chilies, which were too overwhelming.

Steamed Catfish (Pak Sou Gong)
Price: RM 60

We also ordered a wild caught Pak Sou Gong and have it steamed with soy sauce. The fish was fresh but the soy sauce was a bit bland. It will taste better if it is saltier and more savory.

Sweet and Sour Pork
Price: RM 26

The Sweet and Sour Pork was very disappointing. The pork the restaurant used to make this dish were lean, thus the meat comes out to be too tough and chunky after being fried. I feel that the pork were also overcooked, thus they were really dry and hard to chew. The sauce was alright but not amazing as well.

Stir-Fry Pork Intestine
Price: RM 24

I am basically not a fan of animals' internal organs. But according to my sister-in-law, this was the most delicious dish of all the dishes we have ordered.

CONCLUSION

Overall, we were disappointed with the food quality. Now I can understand why this restaurant is not as popular as the other restaurants in the area. Perhaps it was because we ordered the wrong dishes. But we don't know what their signature dishes are.

The total bill came to RM 150. Prices are considered reasonable, but I would probably not visit this restaurant again.
