I recently tried the Miyazaki Fried Chicken potato chips by Lay's Taiwan. To be honest, I really have no idea what Miyazaki chicken is. I supposed it is chicken originated from the Miyazaki Prefecture in Japan? According to this article from JNTO website, the Miyazaki chickens are famously known as the Jitokko free-range chickens. Their meat is not only low in and calories, but they are also very chewy with a refreshing taste that doesn't have the usual strong chicken smell. Sounds delicious, isn't it? If I have a chance to visit the Miyazaki Prefecture, I must definitely have a taste of the Jitokko chicken.
Sorry that I got side-tracked. Back to the Lay's Miyazaki Fried Chicken potato chips, I wonder how Lay's is going to recreate the flavor of the Jitokko chicken. Read on to find out about what I think about these chips, and also don't forget check out the list of different Lays chips flavors I have tried so far.
INGREDIENTS
Potatoes, Palm Oil, Sugar, Salt. Maltodextrin, Monosodium Glutamate, Onion Powder, Soy Sauce, Chili, 5'-Inosine Phosphate Hydrolyzed Protein, Sichuan Pepper, Silica, Black Pepper, Tomato Powder, Sodium Succinate Starch, Egg Flavor (MSG, Citric Acid, Xinlusan, 5'Guanosine Disodium Phosphate), Sweetener (Aspartame). People with phenylketonuria should not consume this. Red Pepper Pigment, Caramel Pigment, Antioxidants (Vitamin C).
The chips comes in a pretty peachy pink bag with a plate of delicious grilled chicken. Upon opening the bag, there was a strong smell of soy sauce charcoal grilled chicken.
The light yellow chips are generally roundish and large, with some bumps and bubbles on the surface. There are some browning on the edges and small flakes of dark seasonings on the chips. The chips are quite thick, but with a light and crispy crunch. Even though I find them a little salty, they are pretty tasty with a lot of flavor. They actually taste like chicken seasoned with soy sauce and grilled over a charcoal flame, except that it is in chip form. I would not say this is my favorite.
