[Genting, Malaysia] Afternoon Tea @ Park Avenue Lounge
By Elin Chow - Sunday, February 12, 2023
Located at Level M, Sky Avenue outside Wolfgang's Steakhouse is Park Avenue Lounge. The spacious space features large floor-to-ceiling window, allowing an obstructed view of the cable cars and Genting Skyworld's musical fountain outdoors.
With a 120 person capacity and a stage for live performances, the Park Avenue Lounge serves afternoon tea inspired by Wolfgang's Steakhouse, which allows gusts to sample signature dishes from the award-winning steak restaurant. Other than food, you will also find a beautiful wine cellar and bar where you can order a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The Park Avenue Lounge offers two sets of afternoon tea, each with its own unique theme.
The Eiffel Tower Hi-Tea Set (RM 98) features a selection of 18 pieces of sweets of the day. The sweets are arranged on an Eiffel Tower, hence the name. It is made for two people to share, but it might be too much for people who doesn't like sweets.
The Wolfgang Hi-Tea Set (RM 199) features a fine selection of sweet and savory delights ranging from bite-size sandwiches to buttery scones. The set, which comes in the form of a birdcage, can feed up to four paxs.
The set includes specially hand-picked teas and coffee. You can pick your favorite cup of tea or coffee to pair with the snacks and desserts. We ordered Green Jasmine Tea and Grand Earl Grey Tea to share. Also, not forgetting a cup of cappuccino for the coffee addict.
However, we couldn't finish any one of them. The pies were crumbly and most of sweets were too sweet. Furthermore, most of the sweet pastries were too large to be consumed in two bites.
If I have to choose my favorite one, it would probably be the Chocolate Pralines. They were rich and sweet, with a distinct bitter flavor. But I wish there were more savories than sweets because eating too much sweets actually makes me feel sick.
The middle tier features an assortment of scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, as well as lemon curd tarts. Scones were the only part that I love about the afternoon tea. The scones were slightly buttery and sweet. They weren't dry or flaky, and I really love the clotted cream. However, I wasn't a fan of the lemon curd tarts. They were too sour for me to enjoy eating them.
The bottom most tier consists of savory mini food like Katsu Sando Beef Sandwiches and Smoked Salmon Sandwiches. The bread was stale and dry, which was obviously, very disappointing because I really wanted fresh bread. However, I love the smoked salmon so much that I wish I could eat more.
Overall, the quality of the afternoon tea was disappointing. In fact, I found it seriously overrated. The snacks and desserts taste as though they have been sitting there for quite long. They were cold and stale, especially the sandwiches. Service was not awesome as well. The restaurant was really slow in serving our order. I think we waited for 40 minutes for our order to be served, which was a bit unacceptable because there was no cooking involved.
Although it is a bit overrated, Park Avenue Lounge is still lovely quiet spot to pamper yourself something and spend some quality time with your friends, family, or your significant other.
