Starting from around the age of 25, signs of aging begins to become apparent on the surface of our skin. As we age, our skin naturally loses volume, elasticity, radiance and glow. Our skin becomes dry and dull, and fine lines will start to appear, which will turn into wrinkles over the time.

Skin aging is due to slowing down of skin's natural regeneration process and cell turnover. External factors such as excessive sun exposure, improper dieting, stress and pollution can also cause skin to age prematurely. Thus, it is important to start using anti-aging skin care products just to slow down the aging process. Anti-aging skin care in your twenties is more about prevention, not repair. The earlier you start an anti-aging regime, the more you can prevent premature aging to keep your skin young, vibrant and healthy.

However, with so many anti-aging skincare products in the market, it is difficult to determine which product is the best to buy. I am afraid that using a strong anti-aging cream will cause my skin to become immune to these skin care products after some time. So being a huge fan of Innisfree, I decided to give the Eco Science Serum a try.

What Innisfree Says

Face serums are lightweight moisturizer that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin, giving it what it needs to progress through the years to keep it healthy and strong. The main reason why I chose a face serum instead of a cream because it works better for my combination skin. As most serums are water-based and usually, does not contain any oil, it does not leave my skin feeling greasier than before.

Innisfree Eco Science Serum is an organic anti-aging serum formulated with clean ocean plants from the Jeju island, which are claimed to promote skin regeneration. Excellence for its Eco-Friendliness, the product also carry the logo of ECOCERT, an international inspection and certification body specializing in organic agricultural products.

In order to meet the ECOCERT Organic Cosmetic standard, the formula must be free from GMO, Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, Nanoparticles, Silicon, PEG, synthetic perfumes and dyes, animal-derived ingredients (unless naturally produced by them). Other than that, it must also contain a minimum 95% of all plant-based ingredients and a minimum 10% of all ingredients must come from organic farming. Other than that, the packaging has to be 100% biodegradable and recyclable.

Enriched with natural ingredients sourced from marine plants found in the waters of Jeju island, the serum is rich in Vitamin A and 40 kinds of minerals, which are said to promote skin regeneration and fortify the natural strength of skin.

Its rich anti-oxidant properties help to slow down skin aging to achieve naturally youthful looking skin. Most importantly, it is free from Parabens, artificial fragrances, synthetic colorants, animal-originated ingredients, mineral oil and Imidazolidinyl Urea.

1. Packaging

Innisfree uses 100% recyclable packaging. The packaging is simple and minimal, nothing too fancy or attractive - definitely not for people who love cute packaging.

Innisfree Eco Science Serum comes in a creamy white plastic pump bottle with a blue cover cap containing 50 ml of the product. The pump packaging allows me to get an appropriate amount of the product easily. It is very user-friendly and very hygienic. But one bad thing about pump packaging is that there will be so much wastage in the bottom which you could not get.

2. Lightweight

The serum is very lightweight and does not irritate my skin or break me out. My skin feels smoother and firmer right after application. The serum helps my skin to repair while I sleep and every morning, I wake up with brighter and more radiant skin.

However, I am not whether this is effective in helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But it does help to firm up my skin, making it soft and supple.

3. Texture

Unlike many other serums that I have used, this product is not transparent clear or creamy white. It is surprisingly, liquid brown in color.

The texture of the serum is watery and has a runny consistency. Due to its watery consistency, the serum can be easily spread and absorbed quickly by my skin once applied.

I am glad that it does not leave any greasiness once it is fully absorbed into the skin, though it is slightly sticky. But once it is completely absorbed, the stickiness will disappear and instantly, my skin will feel softer and supple to the touch.

4. Smell

The serum has a very slight tangerine herbal scent, which lingers for a while even after application. Although the scent was not too overpowering, I did not like it.

5. Price

As expected, serums are always more expensive than creams. In fact, this is the most expensive product in any skin care lines and usually, the price of a small bottle of it is outrageous. But trust me, serums are totally worth your investment.

For such a small bottle, it costs me RM 125. However, a little of the serum goes a long way. Just a pump or two of it are usually enough to cover my face and neck area.

6. Not Moisturizing

However, the serum is not moisturizing enough and would not be effective when used alone. After all, it is not a moisturizer. Thus, it is important to use a moisturizer over a serum in order to seal it into the skin.

How Do I Use This Product

I am using this serum as my daily nighttime serum. The method of application is very simple. You can apply the serum right after cleansing, and before any creams that you will use as part of your skin care regime. I will usually apply products that are lightweight first and then the thicker ones. After washing my face clean, I will apply my toner first before serum and moisturizer. To allow serum to fully absorb, apply and wait for 5 minutes before moisturizing. I am currently using the Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing lotion and Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Cream as my daily toner and moisturizer.

Final Thoughts

Will i repurchase the Innisfree Eco Science Serum again? Well, probably yes and no. I
will not repurchase this product again because I would like to try other brands of serums that are available in the market. I will repurchase if there is nothing else I want to try.
