I visited the historical city of Melaka with my colleagues last weekend for a company event. For our trip to Melaka this time, we stayed at Hotel Equatorial Melaka for a night.

Hotel Equatorial Melaka

Hotel Equatorial Melaka is a 5-star hotel ideally located in the heart of historical district, within walking distance to famous historical sites like A'Formosa and St Paul's Hill, as well as the popular Jonker Street and the award winning shopping complex - Mahkota Parade, Hatten Square and Dataran Pahlawan Mall.

The 22-storey international business hotel offers a choice of 496 air-conditioned and well-appointed rooms and suites with spacious interiors and modern furnishings.

The hotel offers free parking for all guests, so you certainly do not have to worry about your car if you are driving your way to Melaka. Please note that there is no lift access from the hotel underground car park to the lobby. The car park is only accessible via a flight of stairs from the hotel lobby. Thus, I would suggest that you unload your luggage at the hotel lobby entrance before proceeding to the car park.

Stepping in, we were immediately amazed by the beautiful lobby. The lobby was spacious, clean and well-lit with high ceilings.

Situated on the lobby ground of the hotel, you will find a cafe named Etc Coffee Corner. The Etc Coffee Corner is Melaka's first gourmet coffee outlet, offering a variety of freshly brewed coffee, juices, cookies. cakes and baked pastries that will delight any coffee and cake lovers.

The spacious lobby features plenty of sitting options, from sofa, lounge chairs and armchairs. It was a great place to sit down, relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or refreshing juice on a hot sunny day.

Besides the Etc Coffee Corner, the hotel offers 5 other different dining options (including an award winning restaurant) for guests to choose from. Complimentary buffet breakfast is served daily at the Rest House Cafe every morning. The cafe is known for its range of extensive buffets and is sure to leave most diners spoilt for choice.

Other facilities include a tennis court, a comprehensive fitness center, Equinox which includes a fully-equipped gym, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, cold plunge pool and massage services.

In addition to that, Hotel Equatorial Melaka boasts the largest ballroom in Melaka, with the ability to accommodate up to 1350 seating for a sit down dinner or 2000 guests in theatre style seating. All function and meeting rooms are equipped with latest audio visual equipment to impress and enhance any event.

After collecting our room key card, we proceeded straight to our room, which was located on the 12th floor of the building. Access to the room is via the lifts, which can only be accessed by your room key card.

Modern and elegant, our standard room features two single beds with a private en-suite bathroom and separate work and seating area. The room is clean and spacious with plenty of space for extra bed and luggage.

The beds were very clean and so comfortable that we fell asleep as soon as our head hit the fluffy pillows. They were perhaps the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept on in my life! I wish I have one of these beds at home.

Other than that, the room is also equipped with blackout curtains to shut out light at night and ensure a restful night's sleep. We enjoyed a great night sleep in the very comfortable bed and woke up feeling refreshed the next morning.

Air-conditioning is operational and individually controlled within the room.

The hotel has implemented a "Go Green Programme" to help preserve the Earth's natural beauty and resources. Please place the "Go Green" tag on the bed if you wish to do your part in helping the hotel to reduce the use of water and energy

Our room features a small seating area with 2 armchairs and a round coffee table

Designed with the business traveler in mind, our room features a large working desk with comfortable chair, just perfect for work or just relaxing in peace and quiet. However, the desk lamp might be a little too dim depending on your needs.

Other room features include a flat-screen LCD TV with satellite channels and free in-house movies. Free unlimited WiFi is also available throughout the entire property

Other than that, our room also offers an unobstructed and wonderful view over the hotel pool and the city.

We had an interconnecting room where two rooms are connected by a connecting door in between them, which allowed access to each room without using the public corridor. Each of the room has a separate entrance and en-suite bathroom, offering absolute privacy when the connecting doors are locked.

Our room also comes with a large built-in wardrobe, offering ample of storage for our clothes and bags.

Electric water boiler with basic tea and coffee facilities are provided in the room.

Other than that, each room also enjoy complimentary 2 bottles of mineral water (replenished daily), complimentary daily newspaper and 24-hour room service.

Other room amenities also includes in-room safe box, bathrobes, slippers, iron and ironing board.

The bathroom was spacious and beautifully furnished with a granite counter top.

The bathroom comes with a spacious bathtub where you can relax with a hot bath after a tiring day. There are sufficient bath towels provided for every guest as well. Each of them were rolled and placed neatly on a shelf above the bathtub.

I love the towels very much. They were thick, soft and very absorbent. But most importantly, they were clean and bright white.

Shower gel, bar soaps, conditioning shampoo, body lotion, disposable toothbrush and toothpaste are also provided in the bathroom.

Apart from that, other basic toiletries such as shower cap and cotton buds are provided as well.

Oasis-On-The-Fourth

We had our dinner served at the Oasis-On-The-Fourth, an open-air pool bar located on the fourth floor of the hotel.

Located beside the hotel swimming pool, the Oasis-On-The-Fourth is an excellent venue for evening barbecues or poolside parties. The restaurant offers a great variety and selection of food and desserts to delight every appetite. However, the restaurant is only open for group reservation or private function.

The restaurant offers an awesome view over the city.

The hotel also features 4 interconnected swimming pool including a ladies's pool and an outdoor Jacuzzi. There is an Oasis Snack Bar at the pool that serves a great selection of light snacks and cool drinks.

Overall, we have a wonderful experience staying at Hotel Equatorial Melaka. The hotel staffs were very friendly and would always greet us with a smile whenever they see us.

I would definitely recommend Hotel Equatorial Melaka to anyone who is looking for a quality accommodation in an easily accessible, convenient location in Melaka, at a relatively affordable price.

    1. Melaka is a very nice place but the traffic is really bad. I hope the state government can do something to improve the traffic problem.
